Rivers & birds
From the beat of a bird's wing to the flow of rivers, movement is at the heart of our proposal. We seek to embody both the dynamism of the European Union and the flows that pass through its territory.

The bird flies as a scout, an allegory for Europe’s values: resilience and inclusivity. Moving freely between both sides of each denomination, the bird species highlight the interdependence of our environments and societies, our responsibility to preserve their natural habitats, and place water at the center of our priorities.
From a river’s source to the ocean, the bird’s flight reveals the landscapes through the interweaving of two patterns—one hand-drawn and the other vector-based.

Security elements complement this ecosystem with biological components (the bird’s diet for the variable optical elements), technical components (European inventions that enabled us to discover our territory for the foil), and mythological components (naiad depictions for the watermark).

This project was carried out in collaboration with Studio Idaë as part of the competition to design the future euro banknotes, organised by the European Central Bank.
It is one of the 10 shortlisted design for the public consultation, which runs until 21 September:
