Telling the story of the encounter between humans and non-humans
Amphiterre is a mosaic amphitheater depicting species of animals and plants living around La Chouette media library. It's a way of inviting non-humans to share human stories. This is how the kestrel, the green woodpecker and the chestnut leaf come to lend us an ear. Reflecting the use of the site, the installation emphasizes a meeting place for reading, listening and chatting.
The choice of species represented is based on discussions with René Dominguez, designer of the Birds and Fauna & Flora trails in Guichen. The name of the work is borrowed from the amphitheatre designed by the Culture bio association near the media library.
The installation is accompanied by a publication featuring a narrative of the animals featured on the mosaic.
The work measures 2.90 x 2.55 meters and is installed in the courtyard of the media library. The plant and animal species were drawn by Isabelle Daëron, and then interpreted in mosaic by mosaicist Doriane Caru.
The installation is accompanied by a publication featuring a story by writer Sophie Coiffier about the animals featured on the mosaic.
Work carried out as part of the 1% artistic program at the La Chouette multimedia library, 22 Bis Rue du Commandant Charcot, 35580 Guichen, in partnership with the DRAC, with the collaboration of Studio Idaë, mosaicist Doriane Canu and writer Sophie Coiffier.
The work takes its name from the amphitheater designed by the Culture Bio association near the mediatheque.
